APOGEE
OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE DISABLED INC
Apogee is a social enterprise company that combines A social objective with a return on investment with profits directed to offer training and employment for disabled persons.
The challenge before Apogee is to bring economic empowerment and improve the quality of life for ALL disabled persons to the highest achievement possible with social dollars for education and training for employment and self-employment. Right now, the unemployment rate among the vision impaired is almost 70%, and for the disabled community is around 56%. This is an underutilized and ignored resource.
Founded by the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) which was established in 1944, Apogee is a share capital (for profit) corporation incorporated to actively participate in various sectors of the marketplace to make a profit which is then directed at programs with persons with disabilities. At the same time, Apogee offers training to disabled persons with these projects, and in the immediate future, create a training facility for employment and self-employment for persons with disabilities including veterans in Canada and the United States.
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
With the assistance of qualified and experienced contractors, Apogee engages in commercial and residential construction projects where part of the profits are allocated for training and employment for persons with disabilities.
Apogee has secured a number of options on residential lots. The purpose of these projects is to raise money for programs for training for disabled persons for overall employment as well as on site training for those interested in construction management.
Recently, Apogee constructed the new offices for the Canadian Council of the Blind in Ottawa. Apogee is fortunate to have access to experienced architects, project managers and qualified trades for teaching and project implementation. For your next project, wether large or small give us a call.
PUBLISHING
Apogee looks to publish magazines, books and articles through hard copy and electronic format that creates awareness of disability issues, and in some instances, raise funds for training and employment.
Apogee assists the Canadian Council of the Blind in the publication and distribution of White Cane Magazine and the soon to be revised Outlook Magazine. It is also active in the publication and distribution of Kitchens of the World™ a unique cookbook.
TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
Traditional Chinese medicine has been around for over 4,000 years. It is only recently that Western medicine has come to recognize its benefits. By agreement with a Chinese company and charity, Apogee will be a distributor of natural Chinese remedies throughout North America. This will assist in employment opportunities for the disabled.
The CCB and Apogee recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hebei Cheshire Foundation and the Chi Hong Group to promote traditional Chinese health products and assist in investments in North America. The Chinese companies will assist in the promotion of the CCB's cookbook Kitchens of the World™ in China, while Apogee will provide assistance in mobile medical research and provide ophthalmologists and optometrists for periodic visits to China for eye health care.
A priority of the traditional medicine division will offer employment to disabled persons either by direct employment or a franchise.
CASUAL CLOTHING
Under the label Blind Ambition and Design™, Apogee offers quality, Canadian made casual apparel such as hats, hoodies, shirts and toques.
